Being summoned to the podium, which he utilized wisely, a speech or rather a combination of advice and past experiences. His marvelous speech consisted of stories back from the days of his cricket career. He spoke of the days when he took part in the commonwealth games for the Olympics. He added that practicing a sport for a little while is not enough. If you love a sport, or anything in general, time must made for it, consistent effort needs to be made. He encouraged people to be truthful themselves and open their minds, not limit it. His speech kept the young minds engaged in the colorful adventures of Robin Singh. He also spoke about something important to encourage the young girl crowd who dreamt and achieved to be a part of the school’s cricket team.
In his early years of coaching, Robin Singh was asked to work with a women’s cricket team; the Australian women’s cricket team. He was quite clueless on how he would go about with training them as he had never worked with a women’s team before in his career, but he was so passionate and determined about having to work with them that he researched and found different ways to keep the training engaging as well as hyped up so that the women could enjoy their session. Robin Singh learnt so many different ways to coach a team by working with the woman’s team. He mainly had to start from scratch, had to know each player properly; their strengths and weaknesses, come up with new training techniques to keep them fit and up to date to play well enough for the World Cup. As he mentioned in his speech, it’s all about passion and putting your mind to something to be able to achieve it to great lengths.
“To be a good sportsman, you need to be honest with yourself” as rightly stated by Robin Singh himself, to be able to focus on what we want to do, we need to have an open mind, we shouldn’t limit ourselves to what we can do, we should look at a broad perspective to be able to achieve our goals. If we aren’t able to reach our goals the way we planned, we need to find another route to success. All in all, I’m sure I can speak on behalf of the senior school that our experience with Robin Singh was definitely a very informative and a great learning experience and we all have taken a few good trips and tricks from the great cricketer on how to focus on what we want to do and how we can strive to achieve it.
